  • Emotional Issues and Behaviors of Blocked Root Chakra: If your Chakra is blocked you may feel threatened, panicked, unsafe, insecure, or anxious. This anxiety can easily infiltrate your thoughts, making everything suddenly feel uncertain. You may also find that you can’t concentrate and that you’re constantly preoccupied with worries about your well-being. In some people, this can manifest as hypochondria or general paranoia. Physical issues potentially caused by a blocked Root Chakra include a sore lower back, low energy levels, digestive discomfort, and cold extremities.

There are specific stones that have ancient links to each of your chakras. All of them can be held in your hand, carried on you or in your belongings, or worn as jewelry. You could also wear the color of the chakra you are working on balancing. So for example, for the Root Chakra, wear anything red. It could be an undergarment, socks, pants, shirt, jacket etc. These techniques may help you to realign and unblock a troubled chakra.

Chakra meditation techniques are similar to generic meditations, just with a focus and concentration on the particular chakra area and intent. Try this simple but effective Root Chakra meditation:

  • Sit with your shoulders back and your spine straight. Try to relax all your muscles as you close your eyes and breathe deeply. Inhale through the nose, pulling the breath as far down into your body as you can, and exhale through the mouth.

  • Turn your attention to the location of the root chakra, right below your tailbone. Notice any tightness in the area.

  • Since the root chakra’s element is red, try picturing a red glow at the base of your spine. This glow will slowly expand, making the whole area warm and relaxed. Rest in this sensation for 3-9 minutes.

  • When you’re ready, slowly open your eyes. Sit for a few minutes before continuing with your day.

The yoga pose Balasana is associated with the Root Chakra. Lay face down resting on your knees with your arms extended in front of you with your head between them.

There are specific foods that are linked to the Root Chakra such as:

  • Protein-rich foods: help to ground you and give you physical strength, which then helps to boost emotional strength. Good examples include beans, tofu, green peas, spinach, and almonds.

  • Red foods: automatically influence your root chakra because of its association with the color red. These foods usually give you lots of vitamin C, such as strawberries, cherries, tomatoes and red bell peppers.

  • Root vegetables: like beets, garlic, and potatoes are all grounding too, partly because they grow in the soil and are linked to the earth foundations.

Affirmations are a well known technique used to balance chakras. Say positive affirmations at the beginning of the day, at the end of the day, multiple times throughout the day or anytime you get triggered or sense your chakra might be blocked. You can also say affirmations while doing yoga poses, while meditating and holding one of the stones associated with the chakra or write down affirmations and place them in prominent places so you can see them daily. Here are a few affirmations you can say:

  • “Wherever I am, I am safe and secure.”

  • “I am stable, grounded and relaxed in this moment.”

  • “All of my safety needs will always be met.”

  • “I have a healthy body, a healthy mind, and an abundant life.”

  • “I am anchored to the earth and supported by the universe.”

  • “The universe will always support me and show me where to go next.”

  • “I deserve and receive support whenever I need it.”

  • “The universe will always provide for me.”

  • “I feel my root chakra opening, and I feel myself stabilizing.”

  • “I am secure and happy in my home.”
